showerThe master bathroom is an area of the home where we spend a significant amount of time. This is the space where you get ready in the morning and wind down at night. Do you ever feel the bathroom is too small to accommodate your needs? Rather than planning a huge renovation, there are small steps you can take to make the room look and feel bigger.

Install Sliding Doors

For the entryway, a door on hinges can take up more space than you may realize. When open, it blocks one wall that could be used for shelving or a towel rack.

For the shower, replacing a curtain with a sliding glass door allows you to see the full room. The reflective material also gives the illusion of a larger space.

Update the Vanity

A floating vanity – which is mounted to the wall above ground – provides more storage space below. If the bathroom is very small, a pedestal sink eliminates the bulk of a large vanity and creates more ground space around the fixture.

Keep the Space Tidy

A cluttered and messy room only makes the space look smaller. Keep hand and body towels on bars, have toothbrush and toilet paper holders and put away items that are not in use. For guests, have a basket with extra towels, tissues, cotton balls and other necessities.

Upgrade Fixtures

Oftentimes, the little changes can have the most impact. Choosing new, multifunctional fixtures can provide the additional storage space you need to make the bathroom feel less cramped. For instance, a mirror with a medicine cabinet or shelves above the sink for soap, toothbrushes and other items.

Install a Large Mirror

Mirrors are a popular accent piece for homeowners because they add depth to smaller rooms. For the bathroom, choose a mirror that stretches the full length of the wall. It will reflect more light and make the room look more spacious.
